Wing Commander Bobby Gibbes leads No. 457 Squadron RAAF on a sortie over a tropical island. The Mk VIII Spitfires of the "Grey Nurse" Squadron were based at Morotai in mid 1945.

"Sweet and Lovely" © Troy White 2004, Oil on Canvas, 36" x 24"
This painting depicts a P-51D Mustang at sunset. "Sweet and Lovely" was flown by Lt. Cuthbert "Bill" Pattillo from the 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group during 1945. Pattillo was one of the founders of the USAF precision aerobatic team the "Thunderbirds" and rose to the rank of General before retiring.

F/Lt Don Blakeslee banking his Mk Vb Spitfire off the coast of Dover England during the summer of 1942. Blakeslee used this aircraft to score two confirmed victories, a probable and three damaged German aircraft during the intense fighting that took place over France in conjunction with the raid on Dieppe in August 1942. Blakeslee finished the war with fifteen confirmed air-to-air victories and more combat flying hours than any other US fighter pilot during WWII
