Welcome to my studio, as time permits I will be displaying photos of my current painting projects in-progress.  Here you can see how my paintings evolve from the original sketch to the finished painting.

"Hat Trick for Reggie's Reply" Project © Troy White, 2008.

After completing a "top secret" commission I commenced work on this project featuring famed 4th Fighter Group ace John Godfrey. Keeping with the same square format and "coming at you" theme that I have been exploring of late I came up with the above sketch depicting Godfrey's second of three victories that he scored on 22 April 1944.  This is the last painting project of my Australian sojourn and I doubt it will be completed before we shove off for South America.

My good friends Tom Ivie and Tim McCann have been very helpful and have provided me with the raw material needed to accurately portray Godfrey's P-51B "Reggie's Reply"

Godfrey is best remembered for being Don Gentile's wingman. Gentile and Godfrey (above left & right) are seen returning from a mission. Because of the "American Ace Race" propaganda spin in early 1944 Godfrey never really enjoyed the publicity that was given to Gentile despite the fact that Johnny finished the war in a 3-way tie for first place as the 4th Fighter Group's top scoring pilot.

At the end of the first day the painting looked like this. I like to get the first coat of the background completed in one day if possible.

Before I started work on the main subject I had to let the background dry for a few days.

I always try to work from left to right so I don't drag my hand through the wet paint but there are exceptions.

By this stage most of the main elements are in. I am just trying to find out exactly what colour those Luftwaffe parachutes were.

Here you can see that I have toned down those harsh shadows under the fuselage.

This is my living room wall. You can see the way my square compositions have progressed in the past year from right to left. At the end of each day's work I like to view my current projects with other completed works. This is the only time that these three paintings will ever be hung together as "My Blue Heaven" was recently purchaced by an Australian art collector and will not be making the trip to Uruguay.

Here I have painted in the red tape covering the gun ports and darkened blue sky in a graduated tone to give it the depth that it was lacking with the first coat of paint.
